"My Brother J-Boy" describes Nell's adventures with her older brother J-Boy (James Howard Meredith) and their siblings on their farm on the outskirts of Kosciusko, Mississippi during the Jim Crow south. The family lived off the land; they grew their own food, preserved meat in their smoke house, made their own toys, repaired their own shoes, practiced biblical principals, and respected each other, their peers, and their elders. J-Boy's leadership capacity was nurtured during his childhood as the leader of his younger siblings. Later in life he achieved greatness and became known around the world for playing a pivotal role during the Second Reconstruction in the 1960s.
