Este libro no es un libro corriente, y no lo es ni por su contenido, ni por su autor. Y no es porque su contenido no sea bien prosaico y pragmático, como nos los indica su título "Glosario de términos para la administración y gestión de los servicios sanitarios", que hace evidente verdad a su contenido, sino que podría decirse, como ocurre en algunas ocasiones, que el libro define en cierta manera al autor y ojeándolo, leyéndolo detenidamente o consultándolo, que de todas estas guisas puede ser utilizado, se llega a hacer uno idea de algunas de las cualidades más sobresalientes de Carlos Álvarez Nebreda. Son ellas la capacidad de trabajo, la tenacidad, la minuciosidad, el rigor, la aparente sencillez, la exhaustividad y la sistematización con los que trata los temas más complejos que gusta siempre de abordar en su ya no corta experiencia de escribir libros. No es, por ello, un libro al uso, de los que se hacen para decirse que se han escrito, sobre algún tema manido para el que se aprovechan algunas notas y que los lectores olvidan en cuanto se cierra la última página, si es que se llega a ella. No, este es un libro denso, serio, como corresponde a uno que ha sido muy trabajado.
