DOS DÉCADAS VULNERABLES EN LAS ARTES PLÁSTICAS LATINOAMERICANAS, 1950-1970
Obra de referencia indiscutida en el terreno del arte latinoamericano, la autora presenta aquí su controversial postura sobre el colonialismo cultural y el aplanamiento de las diferencias frente a los cuales propone resistirse. Marta Traba se pregunta en qué medida el arte latinoamericano se somete arbitrariamente a las corrientes europeas y norteamericanas y asume preocupaciones que no son suyas. La autora realiza un original análisis de las vanguardias a partir de un mapa del continente en el que confronta las áreas abiertas de Buenos Aires y Caracas, expuestas a las influencias europeas, con las áreas cerradas de Bogotá y Lima, caracterizadas por el tiempo circular de sus tradiciones. Frente a lo que llama el arte de la entrega y la estética del deterioro, la prestigiosa y polémica crítica propone un arte de la resistencia. Esta edición definitiva, prologada y anotada por Florencia Bazzano-Nelson cuenta también con un estudio crítico a cargo de la curadora del Museo de Bellas Artes de Houston y directora del Centro Internacional de Arte de las Américas en el mismo museo, Mari Carmen Ramírez, que permite contextualizar el profundo impacto que generó esta obra en los años setenta y revisar, a su vez, la vigencia de este polémico ensayo publicado por primera vez en 1973 por Siglo XXI.

MESTIZOS DE APONTE A BELKIS AYÓN
Con este proyecto, ideado conjuntamente con Juan Carlos Popa, galerista de la galería Poparte, queremos rendir tributo a toda la influencia de la cultura afrocubana, que ha derivado en nuestras raíces culturales. Es un recorrido desde Aponte, Maceo, Juan Gualberto Gómez, líderes independentistas que lucharon por nuestra independencia y el sincretismo cultural a través de la obra de uno de los descubridores de Cuba, Fernando Ortiz, que decía que la isla es un ajiaco donde se mezcla toda la confluencias de culturas.En esta serie hay referencia a escritores como Nicolás Guillén, considerado el poeta nacional, José Martí, que nos enseñó a pensar y habló de raza y nacionalidad, llegando a nuestros tiempos a Padura, en La transparencia del tiempo. Una Cuba, que une y tiene espacio para todos. En este libro, que fusiona texto de Gregorio Vigil Escalera y la serie de Felipe Alarcón Echenique, se resaltan algunas de las figuras afrocubanas que no han tenido la difusión y relevancia que por su obra merecen. Con este homenaje se trata de realzarlas, como es el caso del cineasta Nicolás Lambardian y Caridad Cuervo, entre otros, hasta llegar a Belkis Ayón, la primera mujer en trabajar temas tabúes como los paleros, una cultura solo para hombres.

¿Por qué «La Gioconda», el retrato de Mona Lisa, es la pintura más famosa del mundo? ¿Cómo explicar la fascinación que produce en los miles de visitantes que se arremolinan cada día en el Louvre en torno a la instalación especial en que se exhibe, protegida por vidrio antibalas? Donald Sassoon, el autor de Cultura, nos habla de sus quinientos años de historia: de las dudas acerca de la identidad de la mujer retratada por Leonardo, de la forma en que llegó al Louvre en 1797 (hasta que Napoleón se la llevó para decorar su dormitorio), de cómo fue robada en 1911 o de cómo regresó en 1914.
