Las potencialidades de captación se analizan en función del tipo de energía que se desee captar, de las tecnologías actualmente disponibles en el mercado y de los rendimientos que de ella se pueden razonablemente esperar. Las demandas de las viviendas se determinan, para cada tipo de energía, en función no sólo del análisis de los consumos reales recogidos en bases estadísticas, sino también a partir de trabajos publicados sobre modelos de comportamiento de viviendas estándar.
