Se recoge en este segundo volumen de obra en prosa de Machado ordenada cronológica (se distingue entre la producción anterior a 1936 y la posterior) y tamáticamente (poética, filosofía, la situación socio-política, cartas, prosas de guerra...). Un Antonio Machado plural, profundo, dialéctico e irónico, hasta humorístico, y siempre humano.
Julio Manuel de la Rosa nació en Sevilla en 1935. Su primer libro obtuvo el Premio Club La Rábida de cuentos en 1957. No estamos solos (1960), De campana a campana (1964), Nuestros hermanos (1973) y La columna (1993), configuran su obra narrativa dedicada al cuento y al relato breve. En 1971 la novela Fin de semana en Etruria ganó el Premio Sésamo y en 1973, su cuento Signos, el Ateneo de Sevilla. Croquis a mano alzada (1975), La sangre y el eco (1978) y Crónica de los espejos (1995), son los títulos de algunas de sus novelas. También se ha adentrado en la literatura juvenil con la novela Memorias de Cortadillo (1998) o textos como El lince, el cazador y los sueños (2000) con ilustraciones de Heinz Edelmann. Sus cuentos y relatos han sido recogidos en deferentes antologías, y reunidos en un libro de cuentos completos, publicado por Editorial Renacimiento. Su última novela, Un país al que llaman vida, acaba de recibir el Premio Ateneo de Valladolid en su LI edición. Cuentos y relatos de Julio Manuel de la Rosa figuran en distintas antologías españolas y extranjeras: Los andaluces cuentan. 22 narradores de hoy, Nouvelles du monde entier, Manifiesto español o una antología de narradores, Narradores andaluces contemporáneos. La presente antología recoge la casi totalidad de la obra de Julio Manuel de la Rosa dedicada al cultivo del cuento, entre 1963 y 2001, más de treinta años de interés y dedicación hacia un género difícil no siempre aceptado por los lectores al uso.
