El marco temático de este volumen parte de un concepto de Modernidad literaria en sentido amplio. Presuponiendo que la crisis es un fenómeno inherente a esa incipiente Modernidad, la figura y la obra de Heinrich von Kleist (1777-1811), con su carácter contradictorio y apasionado, se nos muestran más que nunca como un destacado exponente de esta crisis. El presente trabajo ofrece un amplio abanico de contribuciones sobre este autor que ponen de manifiesto toda la complejidad y modernidad de su vida y su obra. Este volumen congrega a un nutrido número de especialistas en la obra de Heinrich von Kleist procedentes de distintas universidades españolas y alemanas, junto a representantes de las últimas tendencias de la crítica literaria.
