Francesc Mirabent Vilaplana (1888-1952) may not be an inescapable thinker of the history of Catalan intelligentsia. But his figure and his work are very worthy of consideration. They help us to understand both the period immediately prior to the Civil War, full of enthusiasm and good intentions, and the devastating situation in which the Catalan university was found in the postwar period. Between one moment and the other, the work of Mirabent stands with a very considerable dignity. It also represents an important link in the chain that traces a certain trajectory throughout the history of modern thought in our house, especially in studies on aesthetics.
