The Eucharist gives us strength /
– Soldier’s heroism due to the Eucharist
There follows another example of the strengh that comes from the Communion…
A French army officer recalls how he was taking part in the bitter fighting on the heights of Notre Dame de Lorette, 1915. One of his men was a young soldier from Brittany who showed marvellous courage and nerve. Time after time, when the word was given for another rush forward, he was the first to jump up and plunge into the hail of bullets; and his example gave heart to all the other men around.
During a pause in the advance he lay next to his lieutenant, who said, ‘I wish the company had a few more like you! How do you do it?’
‘Well, you see, mon lieutenant, I was at Communion this morning.’
